Been camping, hunting fishing and in the woods most of my 82 years. Modern backpackers have a saying about Cotton, Cotton Kills referring to it getting wet and taking forever to dry.

1 never depend on a tool you haven't used often<br>2 cold kills before hunger - shelter first<br>3 stay dry always, cotton release heat, wool is best, learn the signs of exposure<br>4 water runs downhill, follow the valleys and animals down, boil the water for a minute<br>5 fire's a chore to do early - gather extra wood, carry tinder<br>6 when you know you're lost, stop immediately, sit down<br>7 know the cattail plant, the willow, and the pine tree, and how they help<br>8 tell somebody where you're going, and when you'll be back<br>9 learn the land near you, take only what you need <br>10 keep your head, don't allow panic<br><br>The order: shelter, fire, water, then food.
