For those wondering, the intro takes place sometime after the ending of the original Journey to the West story, where Sun Wukong has successfully escorted Tang Sanzang and ascended to Buddhahood. The difference this time is that instead of Sun Wukong taking his place at the Celestial Court, as how his story ended in the original tale, he instead goes back to his home mountain, wishing to go back to the simpler life. The Celestial Court becomes mistrustful of his act, and fearing that he may raise an army to attack them again, they decide to attack him first with their own army
