This is GOLD! 26:11 There is no substitute for endless experimentation. Engineering alone will only take you so far. Having your own design and precision machining together is an almost unfair advantage over the competition!

what you didn't explain was that the originals I made were anything between 8 and 9mm. thick which made them too thick for a lot of decks, you had to then get to a point in production to make it more usable for as many decks as possible which involved some very fancy treatments including heat soaking to de-tress it and keep it as flat as possible, this factor alone took up a great deal of development time and a lot of inventive thinking and ultimately listening tests to perfect, I remember my comment on the first production sample you supplied to me which was " you've made this nearly half as thick as mine and improved the sound quality at the same time" this sort of development takes a lot of time and patience, it's not just down to simple manufacturing, it's much more involved than even I imagined it, I know you're not one to blow your own trumpet, so I'll undertake to blow it for you, between us this product represents nearly two years of effort and innovation, if one of the larger companies had made this they would probably dress it up in fancy promotional packaging and charge nearer a thousand quid for it. It was never meant to be a simple platter mat much more a platter/record deck upgrade which it certainly is.

Thanks guys. Decades ago I experimented with different mats. There are massive differences. My favorite used some kind of cork like composite with a top layer of shammy, which really grabbed the record. It was much quieter and more resolving than any other mat I tried.

Another thing that made a huge difference with my Graham unipivot was the way the tonearm attaches to the plinth … that’s all I’ll say. 😉

Micro comb filtering is the enemy. Reflected energy is a true villain. Great vid.

Great video, just shows dedication in believing that "were on to somthing" definitely will be giving the strata a try on my Aurora although im spent up this months audio budget with a switch from a set of kt88 to kt150 valves that have left me thinking why didnt I change sooner! Great video and I love how in depth that you went into the design thought process. You're absolutely right about the overhead and that's what people don't understand at all. You really need to pay the price to help keep the lights on and people paid. I really do like and recommend this mat. Yes, it is essentially a platter upgrade.

I have Garrard 401 turntable with a OL Illustrious 3c tonearm with BENZ Micro Ace Sl cartridge. The Garrard is mounted in a Composit Marble Plinth with a glass platter both supplied by Slate Audio in the mid-90's.
What would be the potential benefits of replacing the glass platter ? cheers

The data point on 8 tons per square inch against the groove sidewalls was a particular insight. As well, the props you shared made an impression demo'ing the permutations of design features and testing for material resonance, grip and effectiveness for damping. Always educational, this is a fantastic series, sharing the institutional knowledge of an TT and hifi industry stalwart. Keep up the good work.
