Notes:

Motivation will die unless the following three conditions are all met and maintained:

1. Autonomy
You feel like you're drawing because you want to and you are drawing things that you want at least some of the time.
(Make sure to draw a healthy amount of personal work)

2. Competence
You feel like you're improving in some way at what you're doing.
(Look at old pieces you've made regularly and track your progress to prove to yourself that you're getting somewhere.)

3. Relatedness
You feel like what you are doing is related to a group or a friend so you don't feel like you're drawing all by yourself.
(Engage with other artists at your same skill level. Talk to people and share art with them to gain a sense of community.)

Marc's psychology videos are my favorites.

I’ve been thinking about why I’ve been having major art block lately and this video basically confirms my theory. I’ve developed severe social anxiety in the past couple years and as a result I haven’t been sharing a majority of my art with anyone. I’ve kept putting off re-integrating myself into a social group for so long by convincing myself there’s more important things to be working on, but I think it’s about time I changed that.

This is so close to bodybuilding. You see nothing day to day but in a few years you can create a masterpiece if you do mildly difficult things consistently.

The first two switches aren't a problem for me, in fact I use them every time I draw, but I'm not gonna lie, the mere thought of engaging with other artists terrifies me to an insane extent
