  The octo expansion actually explains this in the texts, it’s amazing how accepting pearl was of marina saying it doesn’t matter if she’s an octoling as long as she’s her friend. Ya’ll we need more people like pearl in this world.

  The funny thing is now we learned that inklings never even knew Marina was an octoling. They just thought she was an odd looking inkling.

  It&apos;s revealed in Splatoon 2&apos;s Octo Expansion that Octolings aren&apos;t brainwashed, but just indoctrinated since childhood, but the Calamary Inkantation the Squid Sisters sang during Splatoon 1&apos;s final boss resonated so much in their soul that a good part of the Octolings started to question the state of never-ending war against the Inklings DJ Octavio got the Octarians in, leading them to desert ; that what happened to Marina, but also Agent 8 as we learn throught the mem cakes.

  And then Octo Expansion explained everything.<br><br>Actually it&apos; still seems like the Octolings that make it to Inkopolis still pretend to be inklings, being afraid of what would happen if people knew what they were. Most likely Inklings would be confused about Octolings actually being alive, and maybe scared by the revelation since they were convinced the Octarians were extinct.
