Also about sans betraying your mercy for an instant kill, that’s exactly how you kill papyrus

46:14
Fun fact about Sans’ room: You don’t actually need to do multiple playthroughs to get here. All you need to do is save right before his judgement dialogue, and then close the game once it’s finished. Repeat this process a couple of times, and he’ll give you the key on a single playthrough.

A thing which I don't see discussed very often is actually Sans's most popular trait - his "cool eye", the cyan/yellow one. Both colours are present as types of Soul. Patience and Justice respectfully. And both fit Sans perfectly. Justice is rather self-explanatory with the whole "you will be judged" thing. And Patience could represent not only blue attacks but also Sans's own patience, required to watch his friends and brother die to attack you only at the end of your journey.

35:39 There's a detail about the "you'd be dead where you stand" scene that always intrigues me, that NOBODY seems to talk about. When he says that line, he deliberately turns away from both us and Frisk. He is not staring directly at anyone in intimidation. Something about that feels melancholy to me, I dunno. Like the fact that the child in front of him could have easily died by his hands scares him a bit.

About the debate on whether or not sans dies in genocide:
Yes, he does. Not only does your lv tick up to twenty afterward, but you can litterally HEAR him dusting after he walks off screen.

Leave it to Toby Fox to make the world’s most hated font into the most badass boss battle of the 2010s.

With Sans' attempt to SPARE you, I think it was a genuine fig leaf. He wants you to do the right thing and RESET, and killing you is his way of nudging you in that direction.

i personally have a different interpretation of sans. sans is a character whom i believe a lot of people misattribute the ability to remember timelines. remember when the human dies or when the timeline resets. however i don’t think that’s the case because again why would sans continue playing his life out normally when something like a genocide route is happening. if sans had knowledge of previous timelines, why wouldn’t he prevent a genocide route? my personal interpretation is that sans only has an inkling of awareness of resets and deaths. when sans kills you repeatedly he counts not by specifically saying oh haha i killed you twice, no he always starts the sentence the same, “hmm. that expression...
that's the expression of someone who's died x times in a row.” sans is saying the same sentence but adjusting his answer based on what your face is saying. i get the feeling that when sans “feels” a reset it’s more like he has a constant feeling of deja vu. sans being able to identify the human as human and the lamp could be explained by toriel describing the human to sans and he just makes the lamp in preparation for the joke to papyrus. idk it’s not a perfect interpretation but that’s how i see it

I love when YouTube doesn't notify me of premieres, even though I specifically pressed the "Notify me" button

The Grillby's scene was always so fascinating to me because talking flower would never make you think of an echo flower ever, even if their existence had just been explained literally moments before in Waterfall before Sans' asks about it. He's obviously referring to Flowey, but then bails for some reason..

I never really understood the ketchup thing, doesn't Undertale tell you specifically that all monster food is special and turns into energy instantly? That's why all food in-game heals you immediately, it's not a video game thing it's literal.
