  I'm a 70 years old Italian born and bread and what I have learnt about my country is this: Italy makes you fall in love with it, but sooner or later it will break your heart!

  I know an Italian immigrant who left Italy 50 years ago and returned to Italy in Pescara for his retirement. When I asked him how he got on with the bureaucracy  he said, "Vince, I don't have to deal with it. My pension comes from England and all I do is pay for my bills but I don't have to work among them or get involved with the system. For me it works." This sums up for us foreigners who could get a better value property in Italy and live comfortably from our net gains abroad in Italy but the bureaucracy and mentality of it is so inhibiting. It still a place where you need to know someone who knows someone to get things done. Sad really that a beautiful country offering sea, mountains, skiing, and food to die for is still tied into this mentality.

  In France, French &quot;boomers&quot; used to live very well during their youth, no degree, no particular skill, you could get hired easily and make good money...<br>Today, if you don&apos;t earn a good leaving, they&apos;ll tell you that you didn&apos;t work enough. Funny when you know loads of them retired at 55 with 2,500 euros a month... <br><br><br>What&apos;s your job ?

  Italy is the kind of country where the best offer a young structural engineer with five years of experience can get is a “Facility Manager” position at Eurospin for €1,700 net per month.<br><br>Then they wonder why young graduates move abroad. The funny thing is that you keep hearing from older generations that young people “don’t want to work&quot;!

  I&apos;m Australian with Italian born parents, it&apos;s happening everywhere. My nephew is trying to move to Italy as a nomad software engineer, currently in London which is extremely expensive. &nbsp;Nowhere is perfect

  I love that you point out that the &quot;slow living&quot; is not by choice, but by necessity. The romanticized view that people have of things that are old, inconvenient, slow, etc is so naive. When the basics of daily living become a chore, you quickly realize that instagram was selling you a lie.

  Any time I hear somebody complain about running into walls with the things they want to do, I want to tell them: &quot;think like a pirate&quot;.&apos;<br>Learn the system, so you can work the angles.

  I live in Italy and I confirm everything she said in the video.<br>It’s really frustrating to love your country deeply and yet watch it decline so much in certain areas, especially when it comes to wages (at this point some families are just *surviving*) I’m genuinely worried about what the future holds.

  I’ve been in Italy for a month (southern Italy). &nbsp;I agree - drivers go by there own rules. &nbsp;My relatives complain about salaries and taxes. &nbsp;Many houses are abandoned or up for auction in small towns. &nbsp;Yes very slow - Very bureaucratic - processing can take months. &nbsp;I heard somewhere “you don’t go to Italy to make money”. &nbsp;I feel for young people in Italy.

  Ahh yes...la guida sportiva. I quickly learned that domani means sooner or later and dopodomani &nbsp;means never. I love Italy.
