Sometimes, the people you please don't appreciate you.

Zuko's arc is the most transformative hero's journey I have seen on television. Heavily manipulated, scared, lost in pride, enough to lose himself to the narcissism, tough school, but he was always guided, close to love of his uncle and later figures out the game that was played and chooses himself, pays all the price which that choice comes with. A courageous soul, not looking for a reward, redeems himself and the world has no more big lessons for him, gives him everything it has, but he might as well throw them away or keep them, it doesn't matter anymore, for he found clarity.

This video worked better than my therapist. I always related to Zuko, ever since I was a teenager, but I couldn't quite understand why at the time, but I felt seen and heard the moment Zuko screamed that he was angry at himself. Now, watching this video, every part of Zuko's life that led him to that path made me remember some events of my own life, despite being very different in details, that made me feel all those things. I feel like I know what I have to do now to reconnect with myself and find peace.

if youre punished for disappointment you chase approval to survive. some people actually give it to you. you take what you can get in the way of strategic allies.

6:00 So Zuko being sent to capture the avatar (Master controller of all four elements) also meant learning to control the rage that led him to disrespect his elders. I'm learning new things anytime I get involved with ATLA.

We all grew up trying to please people. But in reality, you might not always please people as you hope.

Zuko's life has to do with self-understanding. There are two lives people with self-understanding live. The first is acceptance of the world. We work so hard to find our place in the world everyone has also accepted. We become "conformists." We believe that we can prove our worth by following the rules everyone has agreed to. Then there is the second life. Some may call it a "rebirth" It is when we stop playing the game and begin to understand what we truly want. Iroh said it best when Zuko tried to steal Appa from the earth kingdom. Zuko said, "I know my own destiny, Uncle!" Iroh, then replied, Is it your own destiny, or is it a destiny someone else is trying to force on you?" Zuko then says, "Stop it, Uncle. I have to do this." Then Iroh says, "I'm begging you Prince Zuko! It's time for you to look inward and begin asking yourself the big questions. Who are you? And what do YOU want?" That moment was a major crossroad for Zuko. Iroh made Zuko have to acknowledge both choices. One choice was to do the thing that he believed made him happy and the other was to do what he felt was right. He was tired. He was tired of playing the game. He doubted it, but it was the only game that he knew. So then Zuko leaves Appa and he and Iroh go back to their apartment where Zuko begins to feel sick. He then has that crazy dream where he sees the two dragons, one being Azula and the other Iroh. That still small voice was getting louder. Then, in the episode, "The Crossroads of Destiny," Zuko had his choices laid out before him. He had the chance to win the game or the chance to quit and of course, he chose wrong. But he needed to choose wrong. He had to win the game to know the prize did not bring him happiness. He still felt empty. Jim Carrey once said, " “I think everybody should get rich and famous and do everything they ever dreamed of, so they can see that it’s not the answer.” Somewhere down the road, Jim Carrey, like Zuko realized that we are all just trying to win a game that means nothing to us. It's just something we all agreed to at some time that the game was all that mattered. It's only until we look inside and understand who we truly are and what we truly want, do we ever feel alive. Then we don't care about the game anymore. We just want to be happy. We want to love and be loved. We want to be at peace. We want to be free. We'll let the rest of the world play the game. Find what truly makes you happy and stick with it. You will appreciate life so much more,

Great video and character psychology analysis. I always love stuff like this where I can relate more to the character and apply it to my life

When I was a kid, that scene of Zuko screaming into the rain wanting to be struct by lightning made me laugh but now that I’m in my 20s, I understand the feeling and that shit is so real bro .
