  Falling in love with a version of someone that only exists in your imagination is one of the fastest ways to get hurt. Stop ignoring the obvious just because the fantasy feels comforting. See people for who they truly are, not who you hope they’ll become.

  Recognizing the masks of others is intelligent, but recognizing your own shadow, your own capacity to manipulate, withhold, or seek validation through victimhood, is where the real horror and healing begin. Jung was so right: until we make the unconscious conscious, we will keep repeating toxic patterns and call it fate.

  The point is that we are all these people. It's not just others, it us, we romanticize ourselves too. This also impedes our ability to see how flawed and prone to betraying others we also can be.
