  At the gym, I try to include the new guys into my circle, because it’s painful to quietly want connection but feeling excluded, invisible, or unimportant to others. Been there many times.<br><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLf7MLBi6Ik&amp;t=383">6:23</a> Thwarted belongingness.

  Will sound very cliche but the best thing I ever did was to leave my job and make a cross-country trip for a few months by myself, visiting national parks and hiking and just taking stock and coming to understand myself. Was 31 at the time. The insight, self-understanding and calmness I gained has stuck with me 20+ years later - married with some awesome kids and able to deal with the ups and downs of life.

  I was in the library yesterday and saw a book titled, &quot;How to Bury your Husband&quot; on one of the end caps, with a picture of a woman holding a shovel on top of a grave. The first thought that went through my mind was, &quot;I wonder how well that would go over if it was titled &apos;How to Bury your Wife.&apos;&quot;

  The point with the abusive home really struck me…. My parents didn’t physically hit me when I would complain but they would definitely do the whole “this is why my life was worse than yours and you should feel lucky, I’ve provided for you and kept a roof over your head and food on your plate” and now as an adult I realize that was the bare minimum that parents are supposed to do for kids
