I will be the last person on earth to get an Advantage plan. Original Medicare, even if it is pricey, is the most flexible and is accepted by most doctors and hospitals, unlike Advantage plans that are being denied by more and more medical facilities and doctors. I spent too many years under PPOs while working being denied care or being sent to other cheaper providers to not take advantage of using Medicare to its fullest.

I have come to realize that those perks offered by advantage plans are not what I thought they were. Especially the dental, many providers are not accepting them and, you are guaranteed to pay most of the cost since the dental office will only accept a percentage from your plan. I then found out that if I get an MRI, my cost through my advantage plan is $350, whereas through Original Medicare it ranges between 30 to 60 bucks, this is at their negotiated rates. On Original Medicare, you can go anywhere Medicare is accepted in this globe. So just today, I signed up for a Medigap plan. No more worries about pre-approvals and/or denials. 😊

I think the better question to ask your provider is, "Do you accept Medicare Assignment" especially if you have Plan N so you can avoid excess charges.

I live in Texas and have original Medicare with Medigap Plan G insurance that went up 13% in 2024. I also have a separate drug plan that covers less and less each year while the premiums skyrocket.

I just received a letter from CMS saying “your provider (doesn’t say which one??) is working with Southwestern Health Resources (who are they?) to enhance your care through the Accountable Care Organization (ACO) Realizing Equity Access and Community Health (REACH) Model.”

I don’t know who/what Southwestern Health Resources is, but I have a feeling that I, like a frog, am being lowered into tepid water that will eventually come to a boil.😬🥵

Any idea what’s going on?

Medicare Advantage has high deductibles and very high yearly out of pocket. Way better home health type benefits. You save a lot more with traditional Medicare if you become very ill.
