The problem nowadays is that people are willing to believe someone simply because they have a lot of followers, even when they have little knowledge or expertise in what they are talking about. At the same time, people feel perfectly comfortable bashing scholars and those who have genuinely dedicated years of their lives to studying and pursuing knowledge.

Honestly, this gives me shivers. We are living in a time when deception is widespread, knowledge is more accessible than ever, and yet lies are spreading just as openly.

It really makes me reflect on how close we might be to the end of times.

Subhanallah I love this episode. Biggest takeaway is to pause and ask myself why do I feel like this and why is it making me uncomfortable. Love that this emphasizes the importance of studying the seerah with the hadith so understand hadith better.

A few point on the Hadith of the majority of women in hellfire:

1- There's additional context that was omitted. First: that the Prophet ﷺ started by encouraging the women to give more charity because he saw that they would be the majority of the inhabitants of hell. This means he ﷺ was drawing their attention to that sin so that they could avoid it and that there's something they could do about it. It didn't mean that on an individual level, each woman was doomed to hellfire. Second: the implication is that they are often ungrateful to their HUSBANDS. Where if the husband is good to them for a long time and then falls short once, they would claim "I've never seen good from you".
2- What's wrong with the idea that women are weaker towards, or struggle more with, a particular type of sin than men? Men also generally struggle with lowering the gaze more than women do. We as muslims keep saying that men and women are different, but when it comes to gendered differences in certain rights and responsibilities or in certain proclivities we struggle to accept them.

In conclusion: instead of getting stuck on how a hadith makes us feel, we need to have some humility and focus on what wisdom we can learn from the Prophet ﷺ for ourselves. There always needs to be an element of submission to Allah and His messenger ﷺ even when something is difficult for our nafs.

Thank you for your explanations. I remember listening to moulanas when I was a teen and how they would say things like hellfire is full of women and how horrible I'd feel....

One of the best content on the internet I've ever watched. Very eye opening, she's articulated everything so well.

It's one thing for something to come from Allah SWT or the Prophet ﷺ in a particular context, for a particular purpose, and to be undeniable (whatever our feelings about them). But when these hadith are decontextualized and weaponized by Muslim men (and some women) and used against women and girls, to debase them, to justify harming them, to support their subjugation, that is almost another problem entirely. This knowledge-building quells our personal fears ("I was made a woman and by nature I'm less than men"), but how do we change our broader conditions?

I really resonate with this scholar mashallah. Very inciteful and the right approach to knowledge and these kind of difficult conversations we're all guilty of brushing under the carpet.
