  I miss this era of DCOMs. The way this film and “The Color of Friendship” would’ve been deemed as controversial because of bigots deeming it too “woke” frustrates me so much.

  &quot;This Land is Your Land&quot; was written by Woody Guthrie, and the full lyrics are very openly socialist and about the hypocrisy of private property in the US. Woody Guthrie has another song about discriminatory housing practices that is extremely relevant today: &quot;Old Man Trump.&quot; Guthrie wrote it in 1954 about his racist, predatory landlord, Fred Trump.

  Some of the old DCOMs really did try to explore more serious topics. In general, the storytelling and cinematography were way better, imo.
