These films changed lesbian representation forever. Everybody hated them.

I am so thrilled to see literally anyone talk about DEBS. I live But I’m a Cheerleader but that movie walked so DEBS could run. So stupid, so campy, so cute

Nonbinary lesbian here: it's been many years since the first time I saw But I'm a Cheerleader, but I still cry every time he says, "There's no one way to be a lesbian." These movies were a vital safe space for me growing up, when there was so little media that I related to. I'm not surprised most critics didn't understand the assignment: it wasn't written for them, there was a different target audience in mind. Comedy is a great vehicle for sharing the lived experiences of queer people, and I have always found comfort there. Thank you for talking about this! Happy Pride! 🏳🌈🏳⚧

But I’m a Cheerleader is actually one of my boyfriend and I’s favourite lgbt movies, and we’re a gay couple! 😂

As a gay man, I love sapphic stories and good, campy queer movies that aren't about hypersexuality. We need more cheesy queer movies where being queer can't the plot or sole characteristic! 💖

That Rolling Stone DEBS "review" is so vile 🤢

D.E.B.S. in particular activated the porn-brain part of so many cis male reviewers, and then confused them by not being porn. Unlike for example, t.A.T.u., who left them unconfused when they turned out not to be lesbian, which was a much more acceptable outcome.

"We need queer joy in cinema."
Absolutely. And more and more normalised lesbian representation, period.
How old are Bottoms and Happiest Season now? Did I miss anything else in recent years?
Am I still mourning the cancellation of First Kill and Warrior Nun? (Yes, the answer is yes.)

This video makes me of the reaction to Brigerton S5. From the comments of how it doesnt make sense she likes women when theres a loud feminist character right there. Or how so many people wouldn't shut up about how queerness wasnt a theme of the books and doesnt belong on Bridgerton and/or on screen. Despite it being added into Queen Charlotte AND the whole thing going on during the Heated Rivalry craze. It sometimes feels like the world hates sapphics and the part of it that doesnt only loves a specific kind.
