I think him being blamed for him moms death might be a subtle commentary on how black kids are often adultified. Their blackness is seen first and people deny them of their innocence and the protection usually granted to white kids

As an Indian, I fully agree with you on the part where you mentioned that non black people of color have participated in the oppression of black people. Gandhi, for instance, was one hypocrite and racist, and despite him being called “the Father of the nation”, I have nothing but disgust for him. Your channel is so underrated. I can’t believe you don’t have more subscribers.❤

To hammer home how creepy the gathering is, the actors not interacting with the character Chris, were told to act like vampires, and that Chris is essentially their prey. Hence you get those predatory looks where they eye him like he's a meal

This was exactly as dark as I thought it was. When Jim wants Chris's eye, what he fails to recognize is that it's not his literal eyes that make him a good photographer. It's his mind's eye; it's Chris himself that's the assest worth coveting, but Jim can't see that. He reduces Chris to a body with no worthwhile soul, even though he won't be able to duplicate Chris's photos or their impact, just like Grandpa never got over losing a race and is still running in a new body that wouldn't beat Jesse Owens. It's the erasure of the essence of the person that this movie is all about. Get out of your own body....

I initially missed the "Sikiliza Kwa Wahenga" chant. I had no idea that it translated to "Listen to the ancestors".

The complete loss of autonomy while fully aware there is little to no way to stop or evade especially based on someones race is traumatic that is DEEP.

Ultimate robbery and perversion of the body and soul

It wouldn't surprise me if Missy did assault Chris, it had sexual undertones. At the very least it's a metaphor for assault because shes violating him in that scene. It feels like the movie hints at the implied assault of their operation but doesn't go too far into it.

Yes, the unsettling inclusion of Mr. Tanaka, the Japanese "Coagula" cult member, asking Chris if being Black is an advantage or disadvantage, highlights one of the tensions between some Asian Americans and Black Americans. This tension over "advantages" is often regarding policies such as affirmative action, which was wrongly assumed to benefit Black Americans at the expense of Asian Americans and white Americans.

Really appreciate how you picked up on and emphasized the SA aspects. Excellent video all around. Subscribed.

re: the smoking habit admonishment, I always interpreted it as her trying to prevent her "product" from losing quality, and she was just using her daughter as an excuse

After seeing Obsession recently, I want to rewatch Get Out. Both films have such a perverseness to them. This was a brilliant analysis ☺️
