As a 75 yr old looking at your kitchen takes me back to granny’s and mum’s as a child . Lino on the floor ,Belfast sink plus wooden draining board and a Rayburn that provided the hot water. You made a sweet job of making it yours with little tweaks here and there with what you have. You have a lovely way about you and your smile is infectious, thank you for making my day .

What an excellent demonstration of Making Do, and all the better for being real. (And timely!) Thank you, Rebecca. I love your cheerful attitude to life.

When we were kids, in the 50’s (I was the eldest, born in ‘49) we had a council house built in 1952. The kitchen was tiny…..with 4 doors! Back door, larder, dining room and hallway. A gas cooker. Belfast sink and draining boards. Table and chairs. One worktop with cupboard underneath and a wall cupboard over it. Hatch to the dining room, which was actually our playroom. A copper under the draining boards one side. An airer on the ceiling. Nappies up there constantly ……drying in the warmish air.
By 1955 there were five of us children.
Mum worked so hard!
I love your series of videos……and lust after your cottage!!!

What a hard worker you are, Rebecca. And when inspiration hits, you are unstoppable!! Congratulations on this no cost, amazing transformation of your kitchen. Before you brought in the smaller table, I was thinking “cut the big table in half and mount the straight side to the wall!” Good luck with finishing the floor! Well done 👏👏👏👏👏

My Nana had such a kitchenette as you desire . Pale blue and white divided into three sections. The top had glass feature doors, the middle section had a pull down table top / work surface and internal compartments for holding eggs etc and the lowest section was a cupboard with shelves and doors. My own Mother inherited it and for the latter part of its life it was in the ‘shed’ holding tools and household goods non food ! My Stepfather painted it I think green and cream and was going strong well into the 21st century.

You are an absolute delight Rebecca. After watching your videos my day always seems a little brighter. Loving your kitchen makeover and the memories of cooking and eating in Nana's kitchen. x

What a lovely bonus to see your video here, it was wonderful to see the joy that your changes brought to you. After thirty plus years of wanting one and everyone (‘friends’) saying don’t be ridiculous, I finally have my dream kitchenette - we bought it on FBM for £120, it was a little shabby and my husband kindly painted it pale blue for me as a surprise while I was away. Thankfully, he kept the original Fablon that had been put on the shelves because it is so characterful - they don’t make the designs like that now. It’s my baking cabinet, it keeps all my ingredients, machinery, equipment and tins together (the pastry shelf slides out rather than drops down) the top cabinets have leaded light glass, like little cottage windows. It’s my favourite piece of furniture and I wish I’d had one years ago! A lesson to always follow your heart, no matter what others say. I hope you find your cabinet soon; in the meantime, your Sheila Maid is fabulous, so useful! ❤

OMG thank you thank you! I stumbled upon your sight it's everything that I love. Your kitchenette here in the states we called them a Hoosier I had one for years that I inherited from a neighbor and when I moved1998 across country to an old farmhouse my beloved Hoosier went from being a cute display in the dining room to an actual working unit in the kitchen I love it even to this day and my daughter now has inquired about it because she wants to put it in her kitchen. I understand from the deepest parts of my heart the love the coziness and almost the psychological need to create a warm cozy place and I too have the old cookbooks from wartime recipes for new brides and everything else. But I will say one thing you're right on the right track no pun intended on the right track you create an environment that you love that you feel comfortable in it's your home and it's lovely

You've absolutely transformed it Rebecca, and you've given me ideas tor my inherited kitchen. I moved to north east Lincolnshire in March and love your channel. Funny how putting the tape on the kitchen windows just absolutely brought it all together and I love the little star that formed in the middle x

Hi Rebecca, love your videos, thank you for sharing 😊. I have such fond memories of my grandmother’s house, she was born in 1906 and lived in a terraced house in the South Wales valleys. I always remember she had a kitchenette and there was always tinned fruit and condensed milk in the cupboard with the sliding doors. She wasn’t much of a cook so I never saw her making pastry but she did make a mean corned beef and onion hash and homemade chips in a proper deep fat fryer. Those were the days ❤. My biggest regret is not asking her more questions about her life during the war. Xx
