Dude, you casually dropped an 18 page manga in one week without any prior experience in doing this… that’s INSANE! I’m also fairly sure most mangas are not done by just one person, and certainly if they are they’re not going to do the story, dialogue, storyboarding, sketching and inking all at the same time! Once you’re finished get this up for sale! DO IT!

I feel like it must be underlined how your positive relationship with "failure" is so core to improvement.<br><br>You sat down, starting something out of your comfort zone and set goals.<br>While you did not reach them; you clearly learned new techniques and ways to apply your fundamentals AND had the courage to put your journey out there anyway.<br><br>My main take away from this video is not how to rush out a manga but how to challenge myself and keep going even when it gets tough.

For anybody interested, I think it is really important to a) have finished script before you do the thumbs (or Nemus), and b) incorporate both panels and rough bubbles and their sizes (that's why its import to have the script nailed down prior to that) into the composition. Makes the job of putting it all together in a readable fashion MUCH simpler.

One tip for quick full shadows with edge lighting like at <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHX2eTY4YXo&t=540">9:00</a>. Don't bother painting in the shadow by hand, instead just fill the whole character with with the shadow colour and erase the highlights, it's much quicker. Which is vital when doing comics as everything is about economy of time.

One thing of note the level of rendering on display here is more equivalent to Manga that are on a Monthly release schedule rather than a weekly one (There are some weekly manga that have this level of rendering but they usually are not a solo project), so it's not too surprising that you didn't finish rendering the full 18 pages you planned out. Pretty good looking start, that 3rd page felt a little odd though, I feel like it needed an in between panel of the character starting to turn around before it showed her in a full blown sprint.

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHX2eTY4YXo&t=820">13:40</a> mangas are full of sound effects because of a quirk of the language they are originally from. They have onomatopoeia such as stare and humid that are Impossible to translate. The use of such sound effects "western style" are different in part because of language limitations

The creater of SnK said he almost didn't release his manga because he thought his art was terrible (or something to that effect). Imagine if he had let that stop him we wouldn't have gotten one of the greatest anime stories of all time

I think it's a fact that artists demand too much of themselves. We think we have to know how to animate, how to draw a comic, even how to do 3D modeling, when these go far beyond drawing. I remember that I used to make stories just for fun when I was young, but even then I didn't get good at drawing comics. It's something I never studied or learned in depth.<br>For a first experience you did very well. I would say that the only problem was exactly that the illustrator in you stood out.
