Thank you. As a self educated bumpkin, ranching across the world in the Ozarks, videos like these are priceless. As is Cline.

When the economy goes south, traders become raiders real quick.

I love the Empire podcast and this 6-part series on the Late Bronze Age collapse. It's a shame that the YouTube versions are not labeled to indicate which is part 1, 2, etc.

I met Eric in Athens at a conference about the bronze age collapse. He was so knowledgeable and an absolute gentleman.

Nice of Eric to confirm my educated guesses to do with the end of Hattusa in my historical novel, *The Diomedeia: Diomedes, the Peoples of the Sea, and the Fall of the Hittite Empire*! (Except I did include the Sea Peoples, but the Kaska were the final destroyers.) And, further, in a later book in the series, I have the fallen Mycenaeans join the Sea Peoples as they venture into the Aegean.

It rarely gets mentioned that both the Mycenians and Hittites had large militaries.   When the famine hit, and the collapse began, what happened to the thousands of soldiers and commanders, once paid now unpaid?   They must have contributed to the collapse and subsequent sacking of cities as a marading armed military

Listening to this excellent conversation I recall the opening scenes of the movie Iphigenia (1977, Cacoyannis) which depicts the Achaean army baking under the heat, half-starved and praying for a wind to ferry them to Troy. Wind brings clouds and clouds bring rain. He seems to have got it right.
