Feeding thin syrup and a little pollen patty can make a colony grow like mad. My conditions are comparable to yours and Aug-20 is when I start building for winter. That Hive-Alive stuff usually has seaweed and that alone makes a stronger colony as the minerals are amazing. I use 1/4 lb of patty every week on a Double Deep 3-4X to get strong colonies as the goldenrod blooms. Running doubles, the fondant is never used as there is plenty of food on top.

If you ever decide to stop measuring by the glug, I believe it would work out to 2 1/3 cups hive alive to 55 gallons

Question: I was considering doing open feeding away from my bee yard by setting up a medium on a bottom board with a telescoping cover. I plan to put the baggies inside the box approximately 100 yards away with 2 or 3 holes in the baggies. Besides the obvious problem s with open feeding do you think this would accomplish the trickle or slow feeding you discussed? Thanks.

Hi, do you have tested to dripp feeding the bees? IF you do that you can refill the sugar water without Open the hive. To do this you need a infusion set (without the needel). The you can dripp feed them near the brood frames. I feed the bees with 30% sugar water.
If you want to see how I do please look at: https://youtu.be/Ee17uQ8B9lU?is=n8dSfpFjAPTWMuRX
