Stanley Hooker was the Tesla of Mechanical Engineering, specifically fluid dynamics. He appears to view it in his mind. That doubling of the Merlin engine output was something else to achieve, let alone at the first pop !

Sir Stanley Hooker was a brilliant, brilliant man. Britain owed him so much. It was lovely to see him in the video describing things which he worked on. I recommend his autobiography "Not Much of an Engineer" it is fascinating reading and covers many things not even hinted at in this video.
