  I feel like William afton has become one of the most popular and influential villains not just in horror games but in video games in general.<br><br>To this day, the <b>purple guy</b> gets memed around the internet, discussed and talked about to this day and has reached that level of stardom that even if you don‘t have any knowledge of fnaf, you at least have a good idea of who afton is and what he does.

  For over a month now people finally began remembering that The Silver Eyes book 1 exist. <br><br>And after 10 years since it&apos;s release I&apos;d say it&apos;s about damn time. This book alone has the most important Afton characterisation ever !

  In my opinion, the way I always saw William Afton is like a car salesman, the type of guy who sees everything as an opportunity to benefit himself and doesn&apos;t care if it&apos;s at someone else&apos;s expense.

  Plus in the ticket to fun kit, it shows he also gains children’s trust by playing games with them. He played midnight Motorist with a kid named Timmy and was gonna lead him away until it was time to open presents

  I’ve always loved Afton as a sort of cunning, horrifying, dark, twisted, manipulative psychopathic man who never really cared about anyone else but himself, and this helped me understand a lot more.

  William Afton/Springtrap/Purple Guy The way how he symbolizes a horrible person that only greeds for power, and not only that thirsting for immortality by taking lives and being responsible for so many events that caused the Five Nights At Freddy&apos;s franchise to be what it is to this day And even in death, his corruption still spreads in many shapes of form as he says &quot;I Always Come Back&quot;

  Yo finally someone who doesn’t hate remnant and actually thinks it fleshes out the series in an interesting way. I always thought remnant was a unique and clever bit of world building that separated FNAF from most typical ghost stories, to be honest.<br>But yeah, great analysis video! Afton has so many more layers than people give him credit for, and that makes him infinitely fascinating to me. For me, the story that games like Sister Location introduced by adding the Afton family elements and remnant made this series way more interesting to me than just “Guy killed kids and stuffed them in suits”. I love how wild this series gets with its world building, most of the time.

  Something I find interesting is how future horror games, that were inspired by fnaf, managed &nbsp;to recreate the character of afton into their stories but do it in a way that they all feel like fleshed out versions of William, while still standing out as their own characters.<br><br>Two good examples of these are Joey drew from bendy and Harley sawyer from poppy playtime.<br><br>Joey drew (Bendy): <br>Joey drew was the ceo of ink studio that created the ink machine in hopes of making a success. When it ultimately failed, he blamed it all on his business partner Henry stein and out of bitterness, created a entire ink world to torture his own version of Henry forever, to project his anger and frustration on him. Now one may expect Joey to be a irredimable monster like afton was and while everything that happened in the story can all be traced to him, dark revival showed a suprising side to Joey’s character.<br>That before the events of the first game, Joey actually found someone that managed to bring out the best of him, to realize all the mistakes he has done and trying to make amends. Even easing his Henry’s suffering by giving him a Angel of his own to aid him. Joey has the exact same role and status in his story as William had but instead staying a pure evil monster, he actually matured and redeemed himself, setting him more apart from the rabbit cosplaying seriel killer that came before him.<br><br>Harley sawyer/ the doctor (Poppy playtime): <br>Harley sawyer, also known as the doctor, is the mind behind the bigger body project, the one who we have to thank for playtime co experimenting on children and turning them into monsters. <br>He‘s your classic scientist villain who will use anyone, even children, as means to further his research and experiments. <br>In any other story, he‘d be the main villain like William was.<br>But instead of being a retelling of afton’s story, he‘s instead a deconstruction:<br>While his coworkers &nbsp;distrusted and disliked sawyer for his nature, they knew he was too important for the project to get rid of. so they decided to turn the doctor into a brain in a jar, reducing him into a source of answers for playtime co.<br>Harvey was turned from puppeteer to another puppet, that now has to serve the puppets he has created.

  Note: Edwin ruined his own life via neglecting his family over his creations. However Afton and Henry DID abuse his life&apos;s collapse to further push it down.

  All that kind of doesn&apos;t mesh for me, even having known all of this about Afton&apos;s character for a while, is that much of the reason for his evildoing seems to boil down to his personal vision of being a perfect patriarch and understanding of what love is in that context. However, he seems to regard loving the children he considers family as synonymous with being a sadist whose harm is not resisted or punished. This is rather clear to me but I could never quite rationalize what it has to do with his desire to be immortal or his innate perception of being neglected and small. He seems to punish both compliance and noncompliance with his desires in his children, so I find it difficult to understand what he really wants to get out of the way he shows &apos;love,&apos; which is consistently shown to be a complicated mixed bag of manipulative trustworthiness and gentleness and violent sadism in and of itself. I pretty much currently interpret his ultimate goal as being about a petulant need to achieve his desire for this violent vision of what a perfect family is in complete safety from being challenged, punished, criticized, or left
