I'm honestly tired of YouTubers coming to Argentina and using clickbait thumbnails that reinforce a stereotype about the country that the actual video doesn't even support. The thumbnail makes it look like this guy is being confronted or mistreated because he's Black, yet the video itself shows that he didn't actually experience problems because of his skin color. Why create that narrative in the first place?

Argentina is not the United States or the UK. We don't generally divide people into categories like "African American" or "Afro-British." We're Argentinians, regardless of our skin color. That's an important cultural difference if you're going to talk about race in Argentina.

And this is part of a bigger problem with the way Argentina is often portrayed. There are other stereotypes that get repeated without much research — for example, the idea that Argentina was simply "the country that welcomed the Nazis." Argentina has one of the largest Jewish communities in the world, commonly ranked around sixth globally — something very few countries can say. And at a time when antisemitism is reaching horrifying levels around the world, that is worth acknowledging instead of reducing Argentina to a simplistic "Nazi refuge" stereotype.

Argentina's history with German immigration after WWII is real and should absolutely be discussed, but the movement of German scientists, technicians and former Nazis was not uniquely an Argentine phenomenon. Countries such as the United States and the Soviet Union also actively recruited German scientists and specialists after the war. History is more complicated than the stereotype.

And if you actually want to see Argentina's diversity, leave Buenos Aires. It's a huge country, and different regions have very different demographics, cultures, histories and immigrant backgrounds. Buenos Aires is not Argentina.

You can talk about your experience in Argentina without manufacturing a racial conflict in the thumbnail. If the video itself doesn't show the discrimination implied by the thumbnail, then the thumbnail is just clickbait — and it reinforces an image of Argentina that doesn't reflect the experience you actually had.

There is nothing more racist than walking the streets of a city looking for people who look like you... racism starts with that person. Unlike Argentinians, we don't look at people by their color or origin. I can't understand how they find it hard to understand that we are a country built by immigrants; 80% of Argentinians have grandparents from Italy, Spain, and other parts of the world.

LESS DIVERSE ?????????? WHAT ??? Our greatest source of pride is our diversity .. For God’s sake, what is this? Argentina is all about diversity; no other country claims to be a melting pot of races and makes that the basis of its constitution. Here we have communities of all origins, and now more than 100,000 Russians are arriving. There are NO Black people at this stage in our history because, unlike the U.S.—which has massacred, humiliated, and discriminated against them to this very day—in Argentina they have integrated into society and intermarried. Since there were very few of them—very few indeed—there were only 9.000 in Argentina ( 1810 ) And at that time, it wasn’t even Argentina yet—it was a Spanish colony., compared to 8 million in Brazil—they have been intermingling with other ethnic groups, and they did so for one simple reason: they needed to integrate fully. As a result, the racial phenotype was gradually lost. In the U.S., they retained their characteristics not because they sought to integrate, but because they were not allowed to be treated as human beings or to intermarry. I should clarify that the Argentines did not bring slaves; they were brought by the Portuguese. Argentina only had slaves for 30 years in its history; before that, it was a viceroyalty. The 1853 Constitution stipulated that any slave would be freed simply by setting foot on Argentine soil. Please consult books, because owning a camera and digital media entails a certain responsibility.

We had a visit from a guy named Ace Live (the son of Haitian immigrants in the U.S.) who arrived acting very friendly, especially toward the Colombian women. He came to Argentina pretending to be a friend and a supporter, and before we knew it, he launched a full-blown “woke” campaign against Argentina, spreading unforgivable lies and creating videos solely to discredit my country. I just hope you’re not like that, IVAIN!! Best regards and thanks

I would never think to say, “I’m going to travel somewhere as a white man.” What does genetics have to do with traveling? It’s absurd.

There were 40000 Black people; 5 million immigrants arrived. Argentina had no plantations; we were the second country in the world to implement the law of free wombs; there was never organized segregation. Black people mixed, that's all, like everyone else.

Hola!
