It's culture shock to you but totally normal for Americans to compliment strangers, strike up a conversation, hold the door open, etc. Your media and our media are both guilty of constantly portraying the U.S. in a negative light. Hope you guys get to visit the states one day. You would be welcome with open arms.

Both of you would get complimented here but if a man or woman flirts in front of you, they're crossing the line. Just walk away. Keep it moving. People will respectfully compliment you differently when with your partner. You'll be able to tell. Don't overthink it. We do respect honesty so you'll be fine

We Americans cherish freedom and the ability for people to be themselves leading a unique lifestyle without being infringed upon... That's why this couple has felt safe. Americans for the most part leave people alone. We will only get involved if we suspect something criminal or dangerous is happening otherwise we let people lead their own lives as they see fit.
