Most teams built there own design cars, they worked all winter trying to out smart everybody else to win the worlds greatest sports event, that's what made it so exciting, USAC had to be on there toes 12 months a year, now the thrill is gone, everything is controlled, we need to go back to the old days if we can!

I was at the first weekend of qualifying for Indy in '68; saw Graham Hill qualify with car #70, first driver to break the then-unreachable 170 mph "barrier"; only to have Joe Leonard top that in car #60 only a short while later. Now some 60 years later, it's been reported that Amoco Oil (sponsor decals displayed prominently on the cars) paid Andy Granatelli over $100K to fuel the turbines with gasoline rather than JP-4 jet fuel that turbines usually ran on. Could this have led to the breakdown of the fuel pump drive shafts? Seems more than coincidence to me...

yup Yanks are filth Field Marshal got it youyanks were late for ww1 and late for ww2 but i will make sure youyanks are not late for ww3<br>after ww2 the yanks won nothing o Granada ha ha even Cuba roasted them in bay of pigs
