Looks better than 90% of the shit people spend obscene amounts of cash on today.

I part exchanged my 1.6 205 GTI for a 309 GTI Goodwood.. It just WENT better, on the straight or round the twisty bits.. The Goodwood was a limited edition Metalic green version. Full leather seats, wooden steering wheel, and gear knob, Multi Cd player (with a wired remote). It also had grey and diamond cut wheels.. Quite hard to find now..

In those days, Peugeot was the king of building cars that were great handling and comfortable at the same time. The 05 and 06 models are all good in that respect. Even today, I give many modern cars a run for their money on the twisties in my 306. It’s light, nimble, sharp and has no problems whatsoever with bumps, holes etc. Plus it’s very reliable overall. Love em! Now go for a video with the hotter 309 GTI 16v 160 hp pre-cat version, that would be cool!

I was lucky enough to have the 309 GTi ( after a 205 GTi) and I much preferred the 309. I absolutely loved it , kept it for 6 years , it never let me down once. It was a G plate, "phase 1" 3 door. My Dad sold it ( after I gave it to my mum ) for a pitiful £600 to a family friend. I was livid, I wish I still had that car.... It was brilliant! The rear windows opened with two manual switches near the handbrake which opened and closed them like a flap. I miss that car..

I have driven both at times during the 90s and the 309 was a lot more forgiving than the 205, that didn't stop my mate putting his through a farm gate and into a field one night with me as a passenger. 😂

I used to be in the Peugeot GTI Owners Club (205Gti 1.6). They used to have a club day once a year at Silverstone. Peugeot also had a rally school at Silverstone and they used to lay on trips for us round the rally track in a works 309 Gti for a fiver a go.

The driver was Richard Burns. It was both enormously exciting and sh!t your pants frightening.

Burns looked as though he was driving to the shops while I sat there wondering how long I had left to live.

Undoubtedly the best fiver I've ever spent. 😄

I loved my 309gti, i finished the 1992 Lombard RAC Rally in mine 😎 i felt the 309 looked after you more than the 205 and was more stable on long fast forest tracks. Great video, took me right back, if I had the room / funds I'd buy that 👍🏼😍

I had a black phase 2 on a j plate way back...mi-16 engine swap with standard gearbox. The best steering car I ever had, truly great drivers car 👍

My mate had one of these for 23 hours. He took me for a spin and ended up cartwheeling it through a hedge bonnet to boot. The front end, including the engine, was torn off and a back wheel. The roof was crushed down to the top of the seats. Unbelievably, we both got out with minimal injuries, just cuts and bruises. Very, very lucky.

My mother bought herself 309 after my father died and she could get shot of the grindingly tedious Lancer Colt he was so fond of. 5-door, NA diesel, pleasant car to be in if not particularly exciting. I was always fond of the aesthetics of the Peugeots of that era.
