In a Nutshell: This was a fleet action the Italians did not want, the Germans pressed for it vigorously, then went up the chain of command to get it, the Germans promised air cover and support, none of which materialized, the British intercepted German radio communications indicating where the Italian ships would be, the British included an aircraft carrier and three battleships in their fleet and the rest is history and amazingly the Italians almost pulled it out. Read James Sadkovich The Italian Navy in WWII gives a full picture of what really happened in this battle.

Very good. Enjoyed it. I have several books on this battle. Cunningham was flinging his battleships around like the destroyer office he was.

This was a very good presentation of a classic naval battle which oddly, seems to be little known. At least that's what I think. I can't wait to see part two.

John Dalyell-Stead, Pilot, <br>Lieutenant Cooke, observer/navigator and Petty Officer Blenkhorn, telegraphist/air gunner. They were the Albacore crew that released the torpedo which crippled the Vittorio Veneto.
