  If Featherweight was the ONLY trans rep in DC she would be a bit stereotypical but still not ill intentioned. But she's not, she's like the 5th or 6th trans character and she has ties with multiple other cis, het and queer characters. She's great. I love Alya.

  Yeah, I completely agree. The reaction of open transphobes to a bi transfemme character says nothing about her writing or design quality. Plus, I don't think Featherweight being anti-fascist is a stereotype or bad, it makes perfect sense for someone to oppose their own oppression. I would be far more concerned if she were a cop. I do think the trans flag outfit is a bit much though.

  Well said. The outrage from some trans folk against the character kinda surprised me. I thought she was done well enough by a team of cis men. She wasn't named Safespace or Snowflake, for one...

  I’m a 40 y/o trans woman and have an outfit I wear regularly that’s pink leggings and a light blue tank. I’ve been out for ten years and I love flying my flag’s colors. 🏳️‍⚧️

  The idea that comics writers don't collaborate with their artists completely missunderstands how comics are actually made.

  I think there's a bit of a tendency for people making those kinda criticisms to take a bunch external issues and try and blend them down into a singular cohesive narrative even if it doesn't work and just is overgeneralizing. We should address DC firing trans writers for being mildly political but giving cis writers a lot more freedom. We should address how many comics regulate representation to small minor roles in one off issues. (thank god for the supergirl tv show and dreamers comic adaptions and galaxy having more then one comic). We should address the fact that trans stereotypes can turn harmful or fetishistic if its used by the wrong people. But none of these issues have anything do with the character in this comic.

  Literally WHY is it important the writer is a 56 year old man. I feel like the "he's clearly an ally bc he shows up to cons wearing pride flags" thing is WAY more relevant

Their statement there comes across as pretty disengunious, and I appreciate your comment there.
