  Val Kilmer delivered a legendary performance in Tombstone, and the fact that he wasn’t even nominated for an Oscar baffles me. What are some other performances or movies you think were major Oscar snubs?

  Tombstone is such a badass movie. Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday is pretty much accepted by most people as one of the greatest performances ever put on the big screen

  In the Latin exchange between Doc and Ringo, Doc begins by saying &quot;In vino veritas.&quot; It means &quot;In wine, there&apos;s truth.&quot; He&apos;s agreeing that he&apos;s drunk, and punctuating the truth of what he said. Ringo responds with, &quot;Age quod agis,&quot; which translates to &quot;do (well) what you do.&quot; Ringo&apos;s challenging Doc to stick to drinking, since it&apos;s what he&apos;s even better known for than shooting. Doc then retorts with, &quot;Credat judaeus Apella, non ego.&quot; That means, &quot;Let the Jew Apella believe it, I&apos;ll not.&quot; It&apos;s a quote from Horace&apos;s Satires (Book 1, Satire V). For context, it&apos;s from a set of lines doubting the power of the gods to do what can be explained through nature. Ringo replies with, &quot;Eventus stultorum magister.&quot; This means, &quot;Experience is the teacher of fools.&quot; He&apos;s calling Doc a fool and threatening him with teaching him a lesson, through experience. The exchange ends with Doc&apos;s, &quot;In pace requiescat.&quot; &quot;May he rest in peace.&quot; That&apos;s Doc threatening to put Ringo in his grave.

  Val Kilmer has had a handful of great performances like in The Doors, Top Gun &amp; Heat, but his portrayal of Doc in this film was not just one of his best performances ever, it was one of the best performances ever in film period. I put his performance in Tombstone up there with Pacino in Scarface, Serpico &amp; Godfather 1 &amp; 2. &nbsp;Denzel in Glory, Malcolm X &amp; Training Day. De Niro in Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Deer Hunter, Goodfellas &amp; Godfather 2. Kilmer never received the praise, credit &amp; respect he deserved as an actor, very underrated.

  The reason Doc says &quot; I&apos;ll be damned&quot; at the end is because he sees that he&apos;s not wearing shoes. The Real Doc Holliday always said that he would die with his boots on.

  Val Kilmer owned that film. He owned Doc Holliday. Time for honorary Oscar for Val Kilmer. RIP

  Doc was well-educated. There were doctors in his family and he had been a dentist before becoming sick with TB. He knew he was a dead man walking, so he had no fear. He said he expected to die in his boots.
