The fact that "BUGX" was even remotely involved with this railroad should tell you everything you need to know.

This is the first and only commentary video I've seen regarding the Blackwell Northern that doesn't talk about why its operations were suspended by the FRA in 2023... Never knew the railroad was storing so many rare engines in the greater area, and I like the editing style used in this video.

W video, entertaining and informative, I hope some of those BUGX units find find service at some point or get preserved. I actually caught a few old BUGX EMDs too back in January 2024, there was an eastbound BNSF manifest likely coming from Stockton. It came through the Tehachapi Pass, but I was very late to see it so I couldn't catch it in Tehachapi. I had to go very far in the desert to a place called Boron, and there it finally was. The consist included ex BNSF 6326 (former SDP40F now SD40u), ex Algoma Central 1751 (FP9A), and ex BNSF 1551 (SD9-3). All units had BUGX reporting marks. Despite over 2 hours of driving time and daylight disappearing fast, it was still worth it. I was and still am 100% sure I will never see those engines again.

The OG owners were good people chill and laid back and were proud of their equipment. First time I meet them was when they were working on SD18

This is probably one of the most colorful locomotive lash ups I’ve ever seen, and I just subscribed to you! 🎨 🖌️

Regarding the brief stint of Rock Islands operation of this line. It should be noted that when the feds shut this place down part of the reason was because of a complete lack of records regarding maintenance of track and equipment. So even before operations could start EVERYTHING wouldve had to be inspected and brought up to standard. Their crews also didn't meet FRA standard so RI couldn't just hire them either. They would've had to find qualified people.

Maybe thats why you saw them do so little. It was a big mess at the time?
