Hirst is a master of commercialisation. He has managed to make himself to Art today the same as all those resurrected Impressionist artists mercilessly flogged on coasters and plates by Franklin Mint. He and his cooperation with Heni Editions has made him a fortune selling mediocre, art for art's sake work

The elite art market is money laundering. Contemporary "art" is a joke - an expensive joke.

Art has become the largest money launderers tool. Tax free, as easily mobile. Free Ports are their new bank vaults.

These days, the art industry criminality operates with impunity for the most part. Exposing the corruption etc is a joke or even treated as a commodity itself.

over 50% of the works sold at the Hirst auction were not actually collected.

Many years ago Pablo Picasso churned out tonnes of his later work before he died and told his wife it was to flood the market so the price went down....well it backfired because the prices sky rocketed when he died.......more voodoo bulshit....

What a great interview, intelligent interviewee and a subtle, but beautifully on point interviewer.

As a nobody painter slogging away doing work that gathers dust and that nobody will probably ever see (except the few people that get them as gifts, and who assure me they adore them, poor things!) I love Ben Lewis. He’s a true art lover, he’s fascinated by the whole big institutional mess but you can just feel his enthusiasm for the genuine article bubbling under the surface of everything he does. We need more historians, critics, and journalists in the space of this ilk, IMO. Keeping the tax evading, pretentious bastards honest (or at least trying to); insisting on the continued existence of genuine, exciting, innovative art in those small pockets of the market that value art on its merits, and not its branding!

My 2¢ about the Salvator Mundi. The 20% that was there, before the horrific restoration, should've been left as is, unrestored, untouched. As a raw, naked artifact, it could've been powerful. As a restored work of art, it's a failure.
