If you're wondering why this is set at Christmas but coming out in February, it's because all our videos release early on Nebula, and this came out there back in December. The next video is out there now: https://nebula.tv/videos/patrickhwillems-7-essential-movie-making-lessons-i-only-learned-from-making-a-movie

Jacob having Patrick play Kane and Lynch 2 as one of 8 important cinematic games is the most Jacob Geller thing ever 😂

My take on why photorealistic CG animation is accepted in video games more than movies is the frame of reference we apply to it. In movies, we judge it against live action, which so far it always fails to match. In video games, we judge it against older games, which it always excels because of technical improvements.

I've been the same opinion about The Last of Us, before the show, but after watching it, and replaying the game, I changed it. Even thou it's linear, the simple fact of you pushing the buttons connects you to the characters much, much more. Second game plays on it even more, forcing you to press buttons, when you really don't want to.

Also there was a cool moment, when there was an optional dialogue with Tess, right before her death, that player can trigger. Right when the prompt to talk to her showed up, I opened my backpack, and before I managed to close it, and walk up tp her, prompt dissapeared, and the moment was lost, leaving me with a feeling of missing something important. It's a small thing, but only possible in a videogame.

25:36 the goal here is for hideo kojima to scan actors that he likes and upload them into his computer

Imagine is Red Dead Redemption 2 was on the list. This video would’ve come out many moons later.
