  Indian here. I expected Srilanka to be very clean unlike India. It IS clean. Keep it up Srilankans !

  Well bugger me. I have just done two motorcycle rides in the last 12 months in Sri Lanka. Covered the entire country. Beautiful country, beautiful people. You will love it mate. Cheers

  Seems like there's some unconscious bias in some comments here where people just can't go beyond the looks of people and say "Sri Lanka is some version of India". Sri Lanka is unique. Most people wouldn't say that "Japan is a version of China" or that "Greece is some version of Turkey" or that "England is a version of France". Right? I'm pretty well traveled in Asia and in fact Sri Lanka has more commonality with South East Asia than with the majority of India in general when it comes to the look and feel, tropical vibe, cleanliness, and even religion. Most of India with the exception of some places such as Kerala or Goa where you were recently is nothing like Sri Lanka. I found even the food was in the middle of the spectrum between South Indian and Indonesian food (loads of coconut milk, the use of sambals) but quite different from mainstream North Indian food that we find in the west.

  I went to Sri Lanka in2023 on a group trip, I loved Sri Lanka and it&apos;s people, I hope too return one day as with any country that you visit keep your wits about you ❤

  TUK TUK guy is so genuine. Only charged 1000LKR which is undercharged i guess. BTW hats off to him. This is what we need. Small things can make a huge difference. ❤. Anyway welcome to the paradise island.

  I&apos;ve travelled all over both India and Sri Lanka. SL is VERY different from India and imo a far better place to visit for many reasons.

  A friend of mine hated the USA and dreamed of living abroad since childhood. I recommended South Asia to him and he chose Sri Lanka. Finally he inherited $100K, enough to live abroad, and he lived in Sri Lanka from about 2013 to 2018. He rented a small house for $30 per month near the highest peak on the island. His monthly living expenses, including the mandatory health insurance and visa runs to India and Myanmar, never exceeded $800 (USD) per month. Now he lives in Georgia on the Black Sea.

  We noticed a big difference in the quality of scarves and sarongs on our second visit to Sri Lanka. You could really see the effects of the collapse of the economy. I hope things improve soon for the lovely people in this beautiful country.
