Why Denmark is Building an Artificial Island in the Middle of the Sea

Denmark is pouring around 80 million tons of excess soil into the sea off Copenhagen to build Lynetteholm, a new artificial peninsula of almost three square kilometers. It's designed to shield the Danish capital from storm surges and rising seas, and one day to hold homes for tens of thousands of people. In this video we explore why Copenhagen needs it, how a seven-kilometer stone ring was built up from the seabed, and why the project sparked protests, concerns from Sweden about the Baltic Sea, and a legal battle in the Danish courts.
