Why isn't it enough for a person with sensory alalia to simply observe an adult's actions in order to imitate them? In this audio lesson, I explain how a child gradually masters movements, handling objects, speech, and self-care skills through imitation. With sensory alalia, a child has difficulty understanding spoken language, determining which actions require attention, and understanding the purpose of performing them. As a result, the development of imitative activity can be delayed. I'll discuss the main manifestations of immature imitative activity: 1️⃣ Lack of conscious self-speech. The child may repeat individual sounds and words, but not associate them with objects, actions, or situations, and not use them for communication. 2️⃣ Lack of independent play activity. Toys are used monotonously or inappropriately. The child has difficulty repeating play actions, combining them into sequences, and independently developing a storyline. 3️⃣ Insufficient development of self-care skills. The child has difficulty mastering the sequence of everyday activities: independently eating, brushing teeth, dressing, and putting away toys. I also explain the difference between external copying and conscious imitation. A mastered skill implies that the child can: • repeat an action without physical assistance; • modify it to suit their purpose; • transfer the method of action to a new situation; • incorporate the action into independent play; • use a similar object. In the audio lesson, I discuss three areas of work in detail: 🔹 Developing imitation in everyday activities; 🔹 Teaching individual play actions and combining them into sequences; 🔹 Developing speech imitation after learning the meanings of words. The main goal is not to achieve mechanical repetition of movements and words, but to teach the child to understand the meaning of actions, connect speech with objects and situations, and independently apply the acquired experience. #sensoryalalia #imitativeactivity #speechdevelopment #speechunderstanding #alaliacorrection #speechimitation #playactivity #self-care #childdoesnotspeak #speechtherapist #speechtherapistonline
