  If you want to find out what happened, ask the foolish driver who tried to beat the train. These accidents can&apos;t ever be the train’s fault because they don&apos;t have the ability to swerve to avoid the trucks.

  While working as a school police officer in So. Cal., my partner and I one night heard a call of a train vs. tractor trailer rig at a busy grade crossing in our area. We arrived on the north side of the train while the other responding units arrived on the south side. We closed the nearest large intersection until we were relieved by the California Highway patrol. As we drove toward the grade crossing, we both noticed the odor of chocolate in the air. As we neared the trailer that was almost cut in half by the train, we noticed that the trailer was loaded with hundreds if not thousands of nestle quick containers. There was cocoa mix on the street for days!

  Going to be a nightmare for the guys unloading it in the morning - without Joe to move it forward to open the darn doors! &nbsp;I am SOOOOO surprised nobody caught that Josh! &nbsp;Send Joe to the shop to get some sleep, so he can be ready for the call back in the morning!

  Many years ago, in my too-short railroad career, I crossed here hundreds of times, and recogized the location quickly. That made it fairly easy to access the FRA incident report. According to said report, on 11/16/2024 at 5:49pm, train Y-VRN227-1-26A consisting of 2 locomotives and 3 cars was heading east at an estimated 6mph when it collided with a truck-trailer driven by a 48 year old male that was heading north at an estimated 8mph on S Maywood Ave in Vernon, CA. This would indicate the truck was backing when it was struck. Six mph is about what we would be doing here. Eight mph sounds kind of fast to be backing a semi unless you were trying to get out the way of an oncoming train, I suppose.

  First time I&apos;ve ever seen a train hit a semi and the semi was still on the track and virtually in one piece with little damage, &nbsp;so lucky for the driver, &nbsp;usually this ends in disaster, &nbsp;I&apos;m so grateful that it wasn&apos;t as bad as it usually is! Great job as always &nbsp;Josh, you are Chingon !

  The next offload crew must have been so happy for the trailer backed to the loading dock with the doors closed...
