  I was stationed in West Berlin from 1983-1990, and was at Checkpoint Charlie on 9 Nov 89 greeting East Berliners entering the west after 28 years, some for the first time in their lives. It was a unique experience.

  I was in Berlin last year and stood at the Brandenburg Gate, in awe of everything that had taken place there. Ironically, a Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts are now open where the death strip once was...

  One tactic for smuggling folk over the border was to make the attempt near the end of a border guards shift. &nbsp; The guards were focused on their shift ending and often were less diligent about checking persons.<br><br>A friend’s father helped someone cross into West Berlin this way using doctored papers.

  I was a 12-year-old boy when my family went on a road trip to Europe. My father was in the USAF and stationed in Ankara, Turkey. We tried to enter Berlin, but he didn&apos;t have the proper credentials, so we turned around and went to the Low Countries instead.

  In the 1960s one of the first things I remember seeing on television was the wall going up in the country where I was born, Germany, and cutting my country in Half. I was an army Brat with dual citizenship until age 12. I was aghast!…. to my delight and astonishment in 1989 I saw brick by brick that wall came tumbling down. I wept.

  Not to be flippant, but I am reminded of lockdowns when our Franco-Brit family was prevented from seeing eachother and we were denied boarding to a ferry to Spain because we were not jabbed - many parallels if one cares to see them. Finally, we drove down through France and that adventure is on my channel should anyone care to watch! All the best from rural Portugal

  My father got his hitch with the US army extended for 6 months when the wall went up. I was 7 years old and couldn&apos;t understand why my dad couldn&apos;t come home.

  I really loved this &nbsp;great documentary. I’m so interested in this because it was in my lifetime. I remember it but been so young 18 did not realise the significance of this greatest moment to a future and now we have fcku it up all over again
