Caligula survived a near fatal illness. He has just completed massive building projects in the honeymoon period after his inauguration. His insane cruelty started after that.<br>The irony being, if he had died, he would have been remembered as a beloved and great leader, and we'd wonder what he would have accomplished had his reign not been cut short.

One thing of note, when Caligula was sick, it was said that he had a high fever, and too high a fever for too long time can cause permanent brain damage, personality changes, and other mental problems, since the fever basically slow roasted the brain.

One of the most famous things this guy did : the Roman emperor Caligula reportedly declared war on Neptune (the Roman equivalent of the Greek god Poseidon). According to ancient sources like Suetonius, he ordered his soldiers to collect seashells as "spoils of war" from the sea after a symbolic "battle" on the shores of Gaul. This incident is often cited as an example of his erratic and tyrannical behavior. Caligula commanded his soldiers to line up on the beach, face the sea, and attack it with their swords and spears.

It's crazy, Caligula was in office for only 4yrs and were still talking about him 1,984 years later, like if he was only in office recently. 😆

Catherine de Medici has a convoluted history, and is no doubt a fascinating object of study. She was known to love a dish called Cibreo, allegedly eating it to the point of becoming ill. She'd make a great episode!

King Leopold II of Belgium might be interesting. He's the reason why we have the phrase "crimes against humanity".
