This is a goated video but desert temples are definitely ancient imo. No moss on it cus its in the DESERT. The great pyramids got no greenery whatsoever 🙏

Yk idk why I never put two and two together, the skulk spreads upon a creature dying and the ancient city is covered in it, instead of a town painted red, it’s a blackened city

I'd like to argue that a lot of these ruins seem deliberately buried but the trail ruins are clearly buried by time. Something doesn't get buried that far in a short timespan, so they might be the oldest structures of all. Maybe they could even be considered ancestors and origin of the others.

I find a few issues with this.

1) Regarding the desert temples: by that same logic, the Giza pyramids would seem modern.

2) Regarding the archaeological ruins: it is clear that they are just as old as—or even older than—the ocean ones; they are buried directly in the ground and feature very primitive technology—I even seem to recall they can be built without a crafting table.

3) It is debatable whether the temple was built by a civilization or is a "biological" structure—like a nest or an anthill. Given that prismarine is a material found nowhere else, there is no strong reason to think the temples aren't made of the same material as the Guardians, rather than the other way around.

Idk if this has been retconned but back in the day what was left of humanity was the ghasts. They're mass collections of souls that died so fast together that their souls became tortured and locked and they try to kill you because you're a reminder of what they once were and they hate being reminded of when they were not ghasts
