  Almost all of your "Before" pictures are superior. There's nothing LESS "warm and inviting" than cold white woodwork and black hardware.

  I don’t understand why anyone would want a beautiful old home “modernized”.  Yuck.  I love my 1860’s home and try to preserve it.

  I refuse to take advice from anyone who thinks it’s okay to PAINT beautiful milled woodwork….just because you can paint, doesn’t mean you should.

  People nowadays are preferring unpainted wood and brick. As a millennial I find painted brick heartbreaking and gen Z feels even more strongly about unadulterated natural materials. Better light fixtures is a huge improvement though

  I purchased an older house. I replaced the roof, only few people noticed. I changed light switches to rocker switches, electric outlets and all covers are screwless flat white covers. I changed door handles to square mounted lever handles in matt black. The linen closet and bedroom closets have square mounted round handles. I changed the kitchen cabinet and kitchen drawer pulls to satin stainless steel. Everyone notices I have updated the house.<br><br>I did get an attractive ceiling light fan that allows changing warm or cool color and brightness for the livingroom. I changed bulbs that allow that change in the other rooms. I like 4000 K or 2750 K.<br><br>I still have work to do but the small changes are so much more pleasant to live in this small house.

  Holy crap! &nbsp;Watching the destruction of that Victorian entrance woodwork is criminal. Don’t over-stain it , especially not with flipping charcoal black!🫠 With historic elements like that, if you can’t live with it untouched, don’t buy the house.

  Sir, please don’t miss lead people. Real wood should NOT be covered with paint. And brick, let the new owner paint the fireplace, not the seller. We are trying to save time + money.

  Oh, please, please,please do not advise people to paint woodwork if they don’t know what they are doing. We bought a fixer upper where the homeowner had put latex paint over the original oil based paint on all of the woodwork without proper prep. &nbsp;It lasted long enough for the sale, but it began to peel in months, and the fix was unbelievably expensive.
