I am in the Lubbock, Texas, area. The happiest day of my life was when we bought the house with the pool. The second happiest day of my life was when I sold the house with the swimming pool!! ☺

The wine room thing really confuses me with the ones that are open to a ton of natural light, which is terrible for wine. It's purely performative.

We bought our first house a few months ago, and before I buy anything new, I am asking myself, "Will I despise cleaning that?" It has helped me avoid several lighting fixtures and rugs that would have looked great for a month or two, then never again. It's why I didn't want a house with open shelving. Not only do I not need the world to see inside my cabinets, I HATE dusting, and open shelving is a dust magnet.

I put in a curbless shower. My mother was 91 and used a walker. She couldn’t lift her feet and so shuffled. I did what’s called a wet bath, meaning the lower half of all the walls are tiled so the whole bathroom can be washed down. Anyone who has cared for the elderly know.

Freestanding tubs just suck in every way possible. Where do I put the towels? Where do I put the soap? The brush? How to shower my hair without creating a flood in the whole bathroom? Where do I put my phone (for podcasts or emergency calls)? Where to hold onto to get out comfortably? So you gotta place it right next to a wall, and surround it with tables, though it's no longer freestanding, but still got all of the freestanding downsides. Nice! :)
