  I live 1 hour from the New Orleans Port and I will STILL leave 2 to 3 hours EARLY. I have traveled for my work for the last 20 years and I know from experience A LOT can happen!

  The first and only cruise I went on, I flew out the same day.  It was fine but nowadays with the airports having longer security lines I probably wouldn't do it.  I am watching your channel because I am interested in knowing ports and just want to do beach with drinks at the ports, no excursions, etc.. That was the thing I didn't do on our first cruise is knowing what was at the ports.  I loved going to a beach in both Curacao and Aruba, those were great!  We didn't get off at Dominican Republic but should've because the port was private and I didn't want locals bothering us.

  Do closed toe water shoes work for excursions and whatnot instead of bringing tennis shoes as well?

  I am glad you mentioned underwear. I always pack twice what i think I need. As a retired military wife,  for 30+ years, never have enough undies  or socks. Flip fops too.

  The biggest mistake I've ever made was not taking Dramamine bf I got on the cruise ship

  I am not a 'new' cruiser, neither is my partner. On a 21 night cruise I take 12 tuxedos, 5 for formal/gala nights and the rest will be worn 2 to 3 times. My partner will have 12 evening dresses.
