I'm not surprised. He came for our understanding of time with Interstellar, our hearing with TENET, so why not our sight with The Odyssey?

3:50 so funny that i instantly was able to read that at 0.76 meters because metric is awesome and feet are stupid :))

I noticed it the most when Anne was speaking to Tom after he returned to Ithica. Anne was rocking back and forth, a challenge for any focus puller. She was rarely in focus for that shot.

Personally I love the organic nature of medium and large format photography - even with its trade offs and imperfections it makes images feel more alive to me, and especially seeing it on a big screen with all its texture and resolution, even soft focus feels nice to look at to me

The movie is blurry because it was shot handheld with an IMAX camera with a wide open lens making it a bitch for the focus puller to anticipate the actor's and the camera operator's movements.

God, that Anne Hathaway's scene with Tom Holland where she's constantly leaning in for 2 minutes was tough.

Sensible analysis like this definitely needed on the subject.

With a lot of the discourse I've seen, you'd think that every other film made to date had razor sharp focus, and that nobody has ever used a shallow field of focus before.

Nolan wants the highest resolution and oddly that results in low DoF and a blurry looking result in parts. Surely he knew how Wiliam Wyler made Ben Hur with high DoF in 1959. But he chose not to go that route.

I haven’t seen the movie but noticed a shot of Anne Hathaway in the trailer where her face was out of focus. I was like, “Seriously?” It was just a dialogue scene.

I watched the movie in Turkey and was cursing the turkish cinema for not focusing the image on the screen. I´m a fool.
