Wasnt overly surprised both submarines were good options. Assuming TKMS can hold delivery dates it will be great to have shared subs and maintenence facilities across the atlantic with partner nations.

The Hanwa subs are top grade designed to project power. The German sub was designed to quietly ambush and protect home waters.

I would think the Norwegians are also very concerns about operating in cold and frozen arctic waters. We have allot in common.

Both are good boats, but the type 212CD is more suited to Canada’s mission profile: operation in coastal waters, intelligence gathering, sovereignty patrols, etc. for Canada, the stealth and interoperability with NATO allies is key.

I think Canada made a good choice overall, although I would have been happy with the Korean option too. The 212CD is an excellent attack sub. It is in some ways the best in the world. The KS3 is very good as well, and I was fairly sure this was the option we were going to choose. The vertical launch capabilities create strategic options that could have been very valuable to Canada, and it's a great submarine too. It's also a proven platform that is operating now. The 212CD is so advanced that it may come with teething problems, but if it works as advertised, we will have a formidable force. Time will tell if we regret or celebrate this decision.

We're very excited about our new German subs. Brilliant tech.<br>The South Korea sub is an awesome machine, but the German subs<br>align better with Canadian needs.
