Should tournaments bring back the best-of-five format for Masters 1000 Finals?!

Appreciate the real stuff about the 2002 Pete match. Very honorable to tell it like it is.

"my foot had nothing to do with that lost. It was all Pete" gold quote. Love you so much Andy

Always loved Pete's serve setup — one casual bounce, subtle racket lift, then boom into that huge motion. So smooth and cat-like. Effortless power! 🔥

I loved the way Sampras played tennis. The crazy thing was every player knew exactly how Pete was going to play every match and they still most of the time could not beat him when he was playing well. The only surface he was not great on was clay.

Correction Andy...

Even at the age of 35,
Roger Federer wanted more best-of-five set matches in 2018!

Speaking about potential rule changes in the ATP Tour with The Tennis Channel
(via Yahoo Sports),

Federer said: “I would probably add more best-of-five-set matches in finals.”

The biggest tournaments outside of Grand Slams are still best of three sets,
but Federer believed there was more scope for the bigger Masters events.

“At the Masters 1000 (events) I think we have opportunities
to have more five-setters in finals – definitely at the World Tour Finals.

“I think it’s quite unfortunate that on the ATP tour, we actually
don’t have any best-of-five-set matches,” added Federer.

“They’re all at the slams, the Davis Cup, and at the Olympic finals,
so I feel like that’s a bit of an opportunity wasted.”

I remember watching Andy work out with Larry Stefanki at Queens in London from a distance, and it just felt like endless hours of running and fitness training in the sun. Dude was an absolute BEAST. Anyone who says tennis isn’t physically demanding is out of their minds. He’s a legend for a reason.

Andy is knowledgeable and honest with his assessments, but he never got to play Prime Pete Sampras. Sampras was never the same after he herniated his disc in 1999. And when Andy played him in 2002, that was Sampras' last tournament, he was a shadow of his former self. But he was still Pete Sampras; he marched his 31 year-old body through that U.S. Open to become the only man in Open history to ever win a Grand Slam Tournament as his last match.

Prime Pete Sampras is what Becker experienced at Wimbledon in their 1997 semifinal. That moment when Becker went to shake Sampras' hand conceding the straight set loss, and told him he was retiring because Sampras was too good...man, that really was something. Unforgettable.

Love how Andy made no excuses about losing to Pete in 2002. Honest, humble and entertaining.
