  I remember a time when being alternative was 'edgy' and 'insert sh or suicide joke'. Now it's trendy and cool by the same people who bullied alternative kids, smh.

  What most of these men don’t realize is that goth and other alt subcultures isn’t just a costume or a checklist of interests like Sanrio or horror movies. It’s living and loving the music, standing up for what’s right, and doing what you love wholeheardedly. This has nothing to do with how a person looks, just words and actions. A person wearing shitty DIY clothes and going to protests or supporting local artists or businesses is much more attractive than a passive agressive predator who is upset that I’m not the same kind of ‘goth’ girl he saw on Instagram. I know it is a meme that many goth or alt girls go for normie type men but that’s because many of them are actually funny and cool without trying, they treat women well without having to put on a costume.

  As a 41-year-old, hearing y'all refer to "Affliction" shirts as somehow alternative-coded is hilarious. That was what jocks, cops, and assholes wore when it was current. No "alternative" person would have been caught dead in it. Same with Ed Hardy post-2006, tbh.
