  <i>&quot;I need subtitles&quot;</i><br><br>It&apos;s supposed to HAVE subtitles. That&apos;s a very important conversation and I&apos;ve never seen the movie <i>without</i> the subtitles.

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdVGsSuCaC8&amp;t=1650">27:30</a> - I&apos;m the kinda nerd who knows what hexadecimals are, and what ASCII is (software dev) so when I heard him say &apos;hexadecimals&apos; I instantly knew where he was going with it too and duuuuude it was so satisfying to see something so smart in a movie for mainstream audiences. The respect this movie has for it&apos;s audience is incredible.

  Being called a steely eyed missile man is one of the utmost compliment you can get. It comes from your peers, your Equals, and NOT Management. It recognizes your ability to come up with a solution to a problem while under high pressure. It was started with the Cold war and the missile silos. And used during Apollo 12 being hit by lightning on accent to orbit and again with Apollo 13 and the explosion in the service module while heading to the moon.

  My favourate thing about this movie/book isn&apos;t even in the story. &nbsp;In the story, the character was having to do math about their power usage constantly. &nbsp;So he invented a new unit of measurement too help shorten the math. &nbsp;He called it the Pirate-Ninja. &nbsp;Years later, when Weir visited NASA, he found out that they have been using the same unit of measurement, since they have too do that math all the time as well. &nbsp;There were official conversations between engineers, and between engineers and managers in NASA where PN&apos;s are prominently used.

  Something that, for me, stands out, and that you acknowledged, was Watney doing &apos;the math&apos;. People always complain about why do they have to do all the math as they go through school. And that they&apos;ll NEVER use it for anything. And I say that that higher level of math isn&apos;t for everyone. But it&apos;s meant to give students a &apos;sampling&apos; of it and, from there, those students who actually do like it and gravitate towards it, will go on to pursue those jobs where you have to use math to solve problems and create new things like rockets that can go to the moon and Mars and other places in our solar system. But without exposing those students to it, they may never know or realize that they have an aptitude for it. Just my thought, though.

  Just goes to show how monumental of an undertaking space travel is. Let alone the colonization of a planet literally next door to us.

  @<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdVGsSuCaC8&amp;t=585">9:45</a>- Self service story kids; in the Army (Gulf War Era), we had to train in medical procedure, the medics had us (Mechanics) give each other an IV line and we had to give ourselves one as well. Lots of passing out; a couple of dry heaves and my platoon passed with a combat medical certified out come! Ready to deploy! BTW; the Mars scenes were filmed in the Middle East, a place called the Wadi Rum in Southern Jordan.
