  Find rectangular or square containers in a few different sizes that fit well in your freezer, and then donate all your old round ones. &nbsp;Square/rectangular containers are easier to stack and make use of all the space in your freezer. &nbsp;We went from a big freezer to half the size just by using the space better. &nbsp; Containers are much easier than tossing out tons of ziploc bags (and fewer microplastics too). &nbsp;<br> &nbsp;<br>On the square/rectangular containers, write a letter or number with a Sharpie. &nbsp;Turn the container 90 degrees. &nbsp;Write that letter/number again. &nbsp;<br>Put food in the container. &nbsp;Stack them neatly in the freezer so you can always see the number. Having this on 2 sides helps if you have to turn a container sideways to make better use of the space. &nbsp; <br><br>Keep a piece of paper on the outside of the fridge and write down what you have. &nbsp;No more writing labels (my wife can&apos;t read my handwriting) and having them come off in the dishwasher. &nbsp;<br><br>Here is an example list: &nbsp;<br>Chicken Breast &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;1 &nbsp; 7 &nbsp; &nbsp;11 &nbsp; 14<br>Pork Chops &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; 4 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;<br>Meatballs &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;(all of the numbers were crossed off in this example) &nbsp;<br>Mashed potatoes &nbsp; 8 &nbsp; 2 &nbsp; 5<br> &nbsp;<br>This system makes it easy to see what is available for eating without opening the freezer and playing tetris with your stuff. &nbsp;Every night after dinner, as you clean up, glance at the list, pull what is needed, and place it in the fridge to defrost for the next night. &nbsp; It also makes it easier to see what you need when making a shopping list. &nbsp;Using the example above I don&apos;t need any more chicken right now, but it is time to make some more homemade meatballs. &nbsp; And if pork chops are on sale, I&apos;ll pick up a few. &nbsp;Snap a photo with your phone for easy reference when shopping!

  WOW, I’ve been doing it completely wrong all this time! I wish I had known about this storage method sooner. Now I’m wondering if the way I’ve been storing food could have affected my family’s health. I used to just put the food in plastic bags and toss them straight into the freezer.
