  Regarding the Nat Turner analogy to October 7: the question is not whether either is morally justified by what happened before, but whether the discussion should be totally devoid of any reference to what happened before. Imagine a conversation about the Nat Turner rebellion without ever being allowed to bring up the subject of slavery. That is what the defenders of the Israeli genocide want to confine the discussion to. Again, it is like discussing the Mat Turner rebellion and his actions, without ever mentioning he was a slave.

  I loved the point he made about the "intellectual inferiority" of the oppressed that we don't need to provide proof of intellectuality for the oppressors to show that the oppressed had worth and they didn't deserve to be treated that way. You either believe that every human has rights or you don't, it's that simple.

  I have to disagree with Coates that the reason people are not telling the truth about the Palestinians in MSM is because of fundamental goodness. It’s not that. It’s cowardice. People understand that speaking on certain things will isolate them from proximity to power. That is driven, not by goodness, but an immorality.

  His moral clarity on this issue has been refreshing to see, especially when he uses his own credibility with the public and the media as a way to speak truth to power and  to encourage people to learn more and to try to be critical thinkers, and self-critical as well. To question themselves and the stories they believe, who benefits from a certain talking point or is harmed by it, to really encourage people to try to keep learning and challenging themselves to be better informed and to actually try to be better people towards one another.

  Marc Lamont Hill is perhaps the most underrated intellectual of our times. First came across him accidentally in a clip where he was wiping the floor with Chris Rufo (who never saw it coming). I’ve been a fan ever since!
