Groceries seem to me to be a lot more expensive than in Canada. Thanks for sharing. Great video.

All looks good, BUT :), if you go out to dine, clothing, holidays, this last tends to be more expensive since in the UK there's more flights to all destinations. But I get it you're just adding the basic costs. You both seem lovely, I hope you continue to enjoy Portugal!!

I'm glad you have come up on my YouTube algorithm! Great content on the reality of the Portugal expenses that other channels do not share. But it is bitter sweet, the British have an upper hand because of the pound $$$. There are many coming over and making the property values less and less affordable. That again is bitter sweet, good for those who are owners and bad for many others who wish to buy in Portugal, myself being one of those who are searching. I am dealing with the Canadian dollar and the exchange rate is 1.62 euro to 1 cad. I am a citizen of Portugal and wish to return for my retirement, our family left for Canada in 1974. Hopefully "I'll be back" as Arnold would say. Cheers and I appreciate your transparency with the experience.

Dear Nicola and Dave,
Hope you are both doing wonderfully and enjoying a fantastic summer!
We wanted to reach out because we are currently planning our next trip over to Portugal for late September. We’re still actively hunting for the right property and are fully set on making our big move next year. As you can probably imagine, getting everything sorted out on this end feels like a full-time job—between wrapping up loose ends, organizing paperwork, and getting affairs in order here, it all just seems to take so much time! But step by step, we’re getting closer to making it a reality.
While we are over in September, we would absolutely love to finally meet up with the two of you in person! We haven't finalized our flight tickets just yet, but we'll likely end up flying into either Porto or Lisbon. Luckily, that shouldn't make much of a difference for meeting up, given that you’re pretty much right in between the two anyway!
Since you’ve already been down this road, we would also be so grateful for any advice you might have to share—the big pluses we should look out for, or any "pickles" and potential pitfalls we ought to avoid as we look at properties and prepare for the move. Learning from your experience would be a massive help to us!
We’d love to catch up properly over a coffee or a glass of wine. Once we have our exact dates and flight details locked in, we’ll reach out so we can coordinate a time that works best for you.
Sending you both our very best, and hope to see you very soon!
Warm regards,
Roy and Trish

That’s pretty spot on and great for two people. My electricity is cheaper but I’ve yet to install AC. Half my food bill goes to three dogs😅. I’m on a Portuguese pension and can still save a bit for luxuries (travel, antiques) every month. Not having a mortgage is the key. Take care in the current big heat.

Certainly more expensive than France, where we buy far more veggies and fruit. Thanks for breakdown .. interesting comparing .. used to live in Spain for 26 years and prices about same as France and Germany where my husband worked .. thinking you pay far more than us. Great video
