  An old colleague and mentor of mine was a POW in that camp.  I asked him how closely the movie reflected life in the camp.  He told me that the movie was "pure Hollywood".

  One photo has an electric fence which was never at Stalag Luft III.<br>Another photo, &nbsp;early in the episode, &nbsp;shows just 1 person looking at the area where buildings once stood. &nbsp; This looks more like a photo taken from the documentary pertaining to Block 66 at Buchenwald Concentration Camp. &nbsp; Block 66, known as the Little Camp, is where a group of Jewish children (all boys) were placed. &nbsp;Guards thought the older men would sexually abuse them and then kill them. &nbsp;The guards weren&apos;t known to frequent the section because of infectious illnesses. <br> &nbsp; &nbsp; The area was run by 2 inmates, &nbsp;Antonin Kalina (a Czech communist) and Gustav Schiller (a Jewish Polish communist). &nbsp;These 2 became mentors/protectors/2d male figures to these kids. &nbsp;More than 900 children survived the final months of the war in Buchenwald. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you look for this documentary. <br><br>If AI is sooooo intelligent, &nbsp;why are names, times, &nbsp;large numbers and ability to locate APPROPRIATE photos so hard? &nbsp;Whether it&apos;s the wrong equipment, &nbsp;uniforms, &nbsp;often the wrong war or the right person and locations so difficult

  My uncle Jim Lambert was a forger in this camp but unlike Donald Pleasance he’s was almost blind from the work so he was not allowed to go with the others. I guess that saved his life. I have stories he told me of that time. The most outstanding thing was “hunger all the time”!

  The death of the 50 WAS shown on the film. It was very disturbing and no one forgot it, especially because it wasn’t just a story, but a memorial to those who died, just as lasting and tragic as that stone memorial at the camp.

  The movie does end with the deaths of the 50. &nbsp;Except instead of groups of 2-4, they showed a hillside with 25 at a time. &nbsp; Then their names being read during formation

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxoSic9lZTM&amp;t=42">0:42</a> it wasn’t the largest escape of ww2. The largest escape of ww2 happened in Slovenia at camp 18D where over 100 allied prisoners successfully escaped and returned to allied lines.

  Rumor was that bushell was in a romantic relationship with Blazena Zeithammel after his 2nd escape and her former lover got jealous and betrayed them to the gestapo, leading to buschell&apos;s recapture. After the death of heydrich in 1942, the Zeithammels were executed for being part of the Czech resistance
